LADMS Case Studies
Section 136
Our case studies are proof that through collaborative working we can achieve the best possible health outcomes for patients.
Section 136
S136 is an emergency power which allows a constable to remove a person to a place of safety (or keep him/her/them at a place of safety). If the person appears to a police officer to be suffering from mental illness and to be in immediate need of care or control, if the police officer believes it necessary in the interests of that person, or for the protection of others. The person should then receive a mental health assessment, and any necessary arrangements should be made for their ongoing care.
LADMS was awarded the Section 136 Suite & Place of Safety contract in 2014, being a vital service, we operated on behalf of Lincolnshire Partnership Foundation Trust (LPFT); this service was delivered by our trusted Psychiatrists and/or Section 12 trained GPs who were on call, out of hours/365 days a year.
Our S136 service worked hard to cover the Mental Health Suite in Lincoln, by being on an emergency on-call rota to deal with any event that required action urgently. If a patient required support, the clinicians were called to attend the site, to provide assessments and recommendations/decisions on the next steps and support.
